Vetralla.

Our plan today is to get at least to Vetralla which is the end of the stage and then keep going and see how far we get. We feel rested, but there is rain forecast so we will see where we end up.

We had a coffee before leaving Viterbo and taking the Via south. We travelled on a sunken road for 2 or 3 km. It wasn't obvious why the road needed to be cut into the earth, but it was interesting.

The Via emerged into fields and we passed the usual collection of houses and farms, each with a barking dog.

There were rain showers and rainbows. We made it to Vetralla in time for an early lunch. It was nice enough, but we didn't feel we were missing out by not staying. We got a stamp by the wayside and had lunch in a pincheria, served by a man who had just moved here from Putney.

Today's date: 14.10.20

Weather: heavy showers

Steps: 47,108

Distance: 32.67 km

Climbing: 224 m

The Via leaves Vetralla on a long and dull road before entering a beautiful forest with huge and tall trees. The canopy must be at least 100m above the ground. It continues on a lovely path through olive trees, orchards and field after field of hazelnut and chestnut trees. It was a beautiful walk, though it started raining heavily and has not stopped.

The Via cuts back towards the main road at Capranica. It was getting dark so we finished there and caught a bus back to Viterbo.

Il Palazzetto - Viterbo

It was nice to have a bit of space to shed our wet clothes. For supper we went to the same restaurant as yesterday and had a salad.
