Up then down. Repeat.

A bit of a throwback day ahead. Today the Via runs on paths away from any roads and we won't pass anywhere to stop or eat all day.

We had breakfast at the agriturismo then headed out. It was misty and autumnal.

Today's date: 30.9.20

Weather: sunny

Steps: 36,852

Distance: 24.85 km

Climbing: 657 m

The route ran up, down and across the classic Tuscan landscape.

The views were great in all directions, with round wooded hills and olive groves. We met a few cyclists and hunters but no other pilgrims.

We stopped by the side of the trail for snacks, and kept up a decent pace given we were either climbing or descending all day.

Later in the day vineyards started to appear on some slopes. The paths were rocky and dusty and it is probably tough going on a hot day. There are 2 or 3 well signposted fountains for pilgrims.

Gambassi Terme is a village on top of a hill. We got a stamp from the tourist office and met up with 6 pilgrims we know in the square.

Casa del Principe - Gambassi Terme

A super-chic little b&b. It is beautifully restored and has fantastic views towards San Gimignano where we are headed tomorrow.

Supper was a pizza followed by a stroll around the village which is very attractive and full of interesting corners.

I'm not sure the distances on the signposts seen today are very accurate. Nevertheless, we are definitely nearing the end of our pilgrimage. We are the red dot.
