Two days off Via to do 'real-world' stuff.

Troyes is a hidden gem. It was a major trading city in the middle ages and not much has happened since so it is largely unchanged from its heyday. It has street upon street of timber-framed houses and a dozen churches.

There are some nice squares and it is not at all touristy, so it is definitely recommended for a weekend. After a couple of days you would probably have seen it all.

There is a large 'outlet village' on the edge of town and a giant Decathlon (which is like IKEA for outdoor types).

We caught the bus there and back and are proud of ourselves as we only bought the things we needed: floppy hat to replace one that was lost, cooler socks and shorts and a larger mat to sit on when we stop.

Today's date: 3/4.8.20

Weather: sunny

Steps: 14,600 / 12,550

Distance: n/a

Climbing: n/a

We spent an afternoon planning the next week of stages. Accomodation remains a challenge and there is no official camping for the next 50 km, but we booked some b&b's so we have at least some of it sorted.

Ibis - Troyes

There are 3 different Ibis hotels in the town centre. We stayed at 'the middle one' - not 'Styles' or 'budget'. It was modern, quiet and convenient.
