Angry bees.

A hotel breakfast to start the day before catching the bus out to Monterosi. It was an easy and quick journey and we were walking by 10am with just 15 km or so to complete the stage.
Today's date: 16.10.20
Weather: cloudy with sunny intervals
Steps: 27,498
Distance: 18.93 km
Climbing: 410 m
The Via ran east and then south, taking a big loop away from the main road into Rome. We walked mainly on roads and paths through a mix of small farms.
We stopped at Montegelato for lunch and had the restaurant to ourselves. We crossed the river and visited a very small waterfall.
There were quite a mix of animals all day, with cows, horses, donkeys and sheep. In one field a sheepdog puppy was guarding the sheep.
All day long we had heard the sound of engines racing and during the afternoon we walked close to the source - the Vallelunga motor racing circuit. There is a race meet this weekend and motorbikes were practicing. It wasn't possible to see anything, but you could definitely hear them racing around like a swarm of angry bees.
As always in Italy, the village at the end of the stage is at the top of a hill. We walked to the main square and had a tea and ice cream. The daily gelato is a habit we will need to break.
Ostello San Andrea - Campagnano
A very basic hostel at the end of the village nearest to the race circuit. We have chickens in the garden and it would be a nice spot on a warm day.
We had supper at a vegan restaurant in the town centre.
