Marina di Massa to Camaiore

Back into the hills.

Today we continued to walk along the coast before turning inland and heading into the hills of Tuscany.

We caught the bus back to Marina di Massa. The bus was late and went all over the place so we wasted a lot of the morning. We had breakfast in Marina di Massa before starting our walk along the coast road. The coast here is not that great - the beach is mostly private and the land behind the coast is very built up and sprawls without any apparent focus. It was really windy and the sea was white with crashing waves.

The buildings changed as we reached Forte di Marmi with many hotels and villas set in large gardens. We stopped and had a light lunch.

We headed inland to Pietresanta. It was an interesting town with some expensive shops and lots of statues.

We stopped at a bar and had a tea while watching a wedding in the piazza.

There were lots of cycle tourists on the path, but we saw no other pilgrims.

It rained heavily on the walk into Camaiore. It is a nice town, busy with Friday night shopping and people drinking after work.

Ostello di Camaiori

A 14th century monastery. It has a lot of rooms but many of them are closed due to covid restrictions. For supper we went to the nearest restaurant and had the set menu. The portions were huge.
