We took a rest day yesterday, so today began with a short trip back to Ivrea. We spent a little while looking around and got some stamps from the Tourist Office.

Ivrea is at the end of the valley we have been walking for the last few days. Today’s stage runs along the base of the moraine, the biggest in Europe, left by the glacier that created the valley.

Today's date: 5.8.20

Weather: sunny with no breeze

Steps: 35,930

Distance: 23.34 km

Climbing: 354 m

The walk was easy, with little traffic and on well-marked paths. There were lots of fountains and places to stop. There were even a couple of dedicated stops with taps, shaded benches and local information.

We stepped off the Via at Bollengo and had lunch at the top of the hill in Broglina. The road up the steep hill seemed to be a racetrack for bikes and motorbikes.

The walk after lunch passed through the villages of Piverone and Viverone. The hillside was covered in vineyards and there was a great view of lake Viverone.

We stopped in Viverone and had an early supper by the lake.

Rose Suite apartments - Roppolo

A comfortable apartment in a huge old building with walls so thick that phones don't work. The Via passes the door.

There’s not much in Roppolo, but there are plenty of places to eat in Viverone which is minutes away by car.
