Dampierre to Bucey les Gy

Pilgrims!!!

A simple day in prospect. We had breakfast at the B&B, said goodbye and were on the road at 7.30.

We walked into Dampierre where both Boulangeries were shut. We had a last glimpse of the strange glass tower and set off to Seveux where the Boulangerie was again closed.

There should be a law that forbids Google maps from listing a place unless they add their opening hours.

Seveux is on the river Saone which was one of the largest we have crossed. We found an open bar as we left town so we had a bonus coffee.

It was a hot day and the landscape was somewhat featureless. We climbed and descended a lot of hills.

We had a picnic lunch by the side of the road in La Chapelle Saint Quillian. The village had a nice church but was empty except for cute tractors and a dog climbing from a window to bark.

We walked through a forest and on to Vantoux where someone stopped us to offer water. That was much appreciated as we had not passed a tap all day.

There is a bar as you enter Bucey - it is opposite a lorry park and mainly caters for truckers. We had a beer and met 2 German pilgrims walking to Compostella.

Bucey is a pretty and well kept village. Somewhat out of place, one house is overrun by chickens. The owner of the house insisted on having his picture taken with a chicken on his head. As you do.

Bucey les Gy - Gite de Mont de Gy

This is a cool place - clean, basic but with everything you need. The village took an old house and refurbished it. They let the rooms out to groups and walkers. The rooms are cheap but all the visitors spend money in the local shop and trucker's bar (we had our evening meal there) and it adds a bit of life to the place.

We met another pilgrim - Jesus who is also walking the Francigena.
