Brienne le Chateau

We had a sensible distanced planned for a day we knew would be hot. We had breakfast at the b&b at 7.30 so we could get away before the day warmed up.

We had a splendid breakfast with good company and set off. We bought some bread and looked around Chavanges church.

Today's date: 31.7.20
Weather: sunny and hot
Steps: 37,300
Distance: 26.0k
Climbing: 108 m
The walk before lunch was pleasant though there was not much to see. We made good time, stopping at Rosnay l'hopital for a coffee and stamp.
The church was open and cool.
We crossed the river Voire and on to the Aube. There were still battlefields but from the time of Napoleon.
They day got hotter and hotter but we made it to Brienne le Chateau at 2, only to find that nowhere was serving food. We bought snacks at a supermarket, got another stamp from the tourist office and ate our lunch in the shade of the Napoleon museum (he went to school in the building).
The last 5k into Dienville were brutally hot. There was very little shade and we really struggled. We grabbed a tea in a bar just by the campsite.
Le Colombier campsite -Dienville
A really busy site that only let us in because we looked pathetic. It is a great site based in an old house with a courtyard and a garden that runs down to a river.
We went swimming in the river to cool down - it was fantastic. Supper was a burger and salad. The site has chickens roaming around, oblivious to people.

It is still very hot with no breeze so we plan to take it easy tomorrow, with definitely no walking between 3 and 5 again.
