First day in France

A gentle start to our day. Breakfast in Lille then a train to Calais, arriving at lunchtime.

The Cathedral is currently closed, so the first stamp in the passport is from the Tourist Office.
Surprisingly the lady says there have been many other walkers already.
We bought a snack and something for supper before we left Calais.
Today's date: 1.7.20
Weather: sunny intervals, strong headwind
Steps: 38,800
Distance: 23.6km
Climbing: 323m

The Via heads along the coastal path to leave town. It's a great path, well signed and maintained that initially runs along the fantastic beach and then over the clifftops.
The route passes where Bleriot landed after the first airplane crossing and there are some fantastic views from the cliffs.
It was incredibly windy and in your face all the time. Great for the many wind and kite surfers but slighly alarming when you are on a clifftop.
These dots are kite surfers, not gulls.

Camping
Arrived at the campsite at 8. Quiet and friendly, we have the area for tents to ourselves.

Pleased not to have an audience for only the second time we put up the tent. Seems to be staying up. Time will tell. Ate supper at a picnic table at dusk. You can hear the sea from our tent.
