Walkers.

Bar Sport in Buonconvento was filled with walkers and pilgrims at 9 am as they emerged from their overnight roosts, met their friends and prepared to head south.

We let them leave, but soon caught up and spent much of the day chatting to and leapfrogging other groups on the road.

Today's date: 7.10.20

Weather: sunny

Steps: 34,269

Distance: 24.55 km

Climbing: 616 m

It had rained early in the morning so the path was damp, but the air clear as we set off.

It was a gentle morning. We walked along the crest of a line of hills. The views were great, but it was very windy.

On one stretch they seemed to be filming and we were passed repeatedly by a van filled with cameramen shooting out the open doors.

There were good views of Montalcino across the valley. In contrast to yesterday, there were lots of vines and olive groves on the hills.

We stopped in Torrenieri which had a single bar and was again, filled with walkers. There is a particularly noisy group of 8 or 9 slightly older walkers who are having a great time and can be heard from a kilometer away.

The afternoon walk was more of the same, with rolling hills and stony paths. We arrived in San Quirico at about 4, got a stamp from the Tourist Office and had a tea and an ice cream.

San Quirico is another beautiful walled town. It has a bit more going on than some other places we have been through lately.

A b&b overlooking the courtyard in an old house in the centre of town. It is comfortable enough, if a bit cold. For supper we had a takeaway pizza.
